Samara Cyndie De Silva
I am a freelance writer, Illustrator, and Publisher. I hope to bring a taste of my previous island nation, Sri Lanka, to my homeland, Canada, and the world.  My first title was influenced by a visit to the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala. The success of my blue elephant character, OAFIE the Orphan Elephant, built up the OAFIE BOOKSHELF SERIES.
My passion is to make the world a better, happier place for all. I try to express it in the fun characters and hilarious scrapes they get into.  In keeping with my Personal Manifesto of Environmental Citizenship, every story of mine has a moral to it and inspires sustainability in children and their families.
My first novel, JEEVA-HATTE -THE YAKKA LEGACY, will be launched soon. It offers a glimpse of the life and times of the legendary King Vijaya, in which an aboriginal boy, Jeeva, a Sri Lankan girl, Disala, and a Canadian boy, Jonathan, meet in real time.

I studied at Good Shepherd Convent, Colombo. Encouraged by the British nuns and teachers who taught me lessons in school and lessons in life, I won awards for English, Drama, the Sciences, netball, and athletics. I believe in a blend of the Arts and Sciences and continue my Master's in Genetic Medicine and Genomics at Oxford Brookes University in the UK. Although presently, I am on another resplendent island, completing an MD at the University of Health Sciences in Antigua.

I live in the True North, Sudbury, Ontario. My two children and their families live in Oklahoma and Ontario. I drove my rig between the US and Canada. I enjoy kayaking, motorcycle riding, walking or running trails, debating scientific stuff, and cooking. I love taking the bus, whether across town or the English Channel into Europe.
